Fine art, experimental film, and high fashion collide at Kino Tuškanac, Zagreb

“Spring Covergence” is an integrative media experiment combining fashion, art, modern dance, film and music. It features original new paintings by Johnathan A. Roberts, a spring fashion collection by DORA Modni Salon which uses textile designs created from Johnathan’s paintings, a short impressionistic film directed by Goran Ribarić and photographed by Miran Krčadinac that draws on aesthetic elements from both the paintings and fashion designs as the basis for its atmosphere and mood, as well as originally composed music connected with the short film.
Each work of art stands alone on its own strengths, but nevertheless adopts components from its counterparts in other mediums in order to generate a feedback cycle which produces a whole that is more alluring than the sum of its parts.
Opening on Saturday, March 25 at 12:00 at Kino Tuškanac, the event includes free art workshops for families, a live musical performance by group Balkalar, and also a selection of locally produced boutique ice cream and deserts. The event sponsors include Hon-ing d.o.o., Medenko Slatka Tvornica, and Hrvatski Filmski Savez.
Daniela Bilopavlović Bedenik, an art historian and senior curator at the Zagreb Museum of Contemporary Art, emphasized about this unique art project: “Have you ever been so enthralled by a painting that you wanted to “enter” it, be part of its imagination, identify with a character or a feeling that it awakens in you? Art lovers have certainly dreamed of such things countless times. However, sometimes that fantasy and imagination can come to life. Certain that the combination of two old crafts with new technologies would work, the artistic duo Johnathan and Dora have produced something new and special. The designs with perfect, simple lines that emerge from the pen and needle of Dora Rubić seemed to be crying out for something new and different, and Johnathan’s paintings were ideal for this kind of “experiment”. Thanks to new textile printing technology, Johnathan’s pictures are “painted” in the fabric itself, and Dora’s works resulting from this “experiment” are just fantastic. Thus these acrylics on canvas have been reincarnated, and a spring collection of recognizable design got a new stamp. Most importantly, the final product is a work of art.”
